Featuring over 1,500 engravings that originally graced the pages of Webster’s dictionaries in the 19th century, this chunky volume is an irresistible treasure trove for art lovers, designers, and anyone with an interest in visual history. Meticulously cleaned and restored by fine-press bookmaker Johnny Carrera, the engravings in Pictorial Webster’s have been compiled into an alluring and unusual visual reference guide for the modern day. Images range from the entirely mysterious to the classically iconic. From Acorns to Zebras, Bell Jars to Velocipedes, these alphabetically arranged archetypes and curiosities create enigmatic juxtapositions and illustrate the items deemed important to the Victorian mind. Sure to inspire and delight, Pictorial Webster’s is at once a fascinating historical record and a stunning jewel of a book.

The H.O. Studley Tool Chest

studley_800x600Massachusetts piano maker Henry Studley built his magnificent tool chest over the course of a 30-year career at the Poole Piano Company. The chest lived on the wall near his workbench, and he worked on it regularly, making changes and adding new tools as he acquired them. Using ebony, mother-of-pearl, ivory, rosewood, and mahogany — all materials used in the manufacture of pianos — he refined the chest to the point that now, more than 80 years after his death, it remains in a class of its own.

Im drooling!!!

p1010953If I cut wood for more then a few time in my life I would love one of these even if it was just laying around most the time

Our axes are hand tempered in Maine by one of America’s oldest axe companies.
The helves (handles) are made of 30″ American hickory, and are
designed and hand painted by designer and Best Made co-founder Peter Buchanan-Smith.
Each axe is hand engraved with our signature X mark.

Every axe is made to order. Our axes are true originals, each with its own charm,
and disposition. Buy an axe and unfurl a legend.

KISS – Keep It Simple Stupid

2007-09-13-hadleyIf you open the door above my sink you will see many types of glasses its enough to make your head spin even before you decided what to drink. Thats why its nice to just keep it simple and get all the same glasses.

Good news…and more good news. When Martha By Mail stopped selling in 2005, there were a few items that were sorely missed.

We distinctly remembered folks online at AT lamenting the fact that “Martha’s Favorite Glasses” were no longer available; people were getting panicky about the breaking of one of the precious few they had left.

Well they are back, officially…and maybe unofficially too….
